CC can't quite solve Mustangs

Tigers suffer 3-1 loss at SMU

Still unable to find any consistency in its attack, Colorado College suffered another disappointing setback on Sunday.

The Tigers battled back from an early deficit to pull even on Lauren DiGregorio's goal just 90 seconds into the second half, but surrendered a pair of late tallies to fall at SMU by a 3-1 count at Westcott Field in Dallas.

Kaitlyn Eidson struck for the second time in the match with 18 minutes left to play, snapping a tie and propelling the Mustangs to their fourth consecutive Conference USA victory.

CC, 5-5-4 overall, now finds its back against the wall in its quest for a fifth straight trip to the league's post-season tournament. The Tigers are 1-4-1 and currently in 10th place in the C-USA standings with five games remaining on the regular-season schedule.

Only 1:20 had elapsed on Sunday before Eidson's first tally staked SMU to a 1-0 lead. Colorado College climbed back into contention when senior defender Sydney Fetter set up freshman DiGregorio for a close-in header after Tiffany Brown's corner kick.

But that was it for the Tigers, who managed only three shots on goal against Mustangs keeper Courtney Webb despite finishing with a 10-9 advantage in overall attempts.

Eidson's game winner, also on a header of a corner kick, came at the 71:59 mark. Shelby Hartweck added an insurance goal for SMU in the 84th minute.
