Colorado College clinched a share of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and the top seed in the upcoming conference championship with a pair of victories on Saturday at the East-West crossover matches at Austin College.
The Tigers improved to 22-5 overall and 14-1 in the SCAC after posting a 25-9, 25-13, 25-13 win over Oglethorpe University and taking a 25-16, 21-25, 25-14, 25-4 decision from host Austin College in the final match of the weekend.
Senior middle blocker Emily Perkins hit .647 with 12 kills on 17 attacks with only one error against Oglethorpe. Junior right-side hitter Meredith Ballard had six kills on eight swings with just one error to finish with a .625 hitting percentage.
Sophomore libero Laura Goldsmith paced the defensive effort with 12 digs, while junior setter Amy Schornack and freshman middle blocker Devin Wilkinson each had a hand in a pair of blocked shots.
Ballard and senior middle blocker Erika Pirotte had 13 kills apiece to lead the Tigers to the four-set victory against the Kangaroos. Perkins recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 11 kills and season-high 25 digs.
Goldsmith had a match-high 28 digs, while Wilkinson was in on four blocked shots.
With its first conference title in hand, Colorado College plays host the Molten Volleyball Spike It Up Classic next Friday and Saturday at Reid Gymnasium.
