Tigers no match for Yale

CC falls to Bulldogs, 5-1

From the looks of things, Yale University's hockey team is for real.

Validating their No. 3 national ranking, the visiting Bulldogs schooled Colorado College to the tune of 5-1 at the World Arena on Saturday night.

The non-conference defeat ended CC's modest two-game winning streak and dropped the Tigers back below .500 with a 5-6-1 overall record for the season.

Yale remained perfect at 5-0 after getting goals from five different players and points from 12. Sophomore center Andrew Miller, who scored the game winner, added an assist. Senior center Brendan Mason collected a pair of helpers.

Freshman netminder Josh Thorimbert, making just his second start between the pipes, finished with 35 saves in a losing effort. YU's Ryan Rondeau, a senior, made 24 at the other end.

This one started out sour and never got any better for the home team.

The first period belonged to Yale, which not only out-shot the Tigers by a 15-4 margin but took command with a pair of unanswered tallies by fourth-line right wing Charles Brockett at 5:46 and Miller at 17:17.

When Chad Ziegler made it 3-0 less than three minutes into the middle frame, CC found itself in a hole too deep to escape.

Stephen Schultz scored for the fourth consecutive game at 5:07 of that second stanza, bringing the crowd of 6,154 to life and giving Colorado College a glimmer of hope.

But, when Kevin Limbert responded for the Bulldogs just 2:36 after Schultz's tally, the Tigers were toast.

The CC power play, which had converted on 10 of 20 opportunities the previous two games, only had three legitimate chances to show its stuff on Friday, and came up empty.

The Tigers now take a break in their schedule before resuming WCHA play at home against the University of Alaska Anchorage over Thanksgiving Weekend.
