Tigers keep road streak alive

CC grabs 3-0 victory at University of Utah

Unfazed by its rigorous travel schedule of the last two weeks, Colorado College headed home on Sunday as the owner of an impressive four-game undefeated streak.

The Tigers improved to 2-0-2 on the road and 3-1-2 overall with a 3-0 non-conference victory over the University of Utah at Ute Field in Salt Lake City.

CC got goals from senior forward Tiffany Brown, who notched the game winner on a penalty kick midway through the first half, as well as from freshmen Lauren DiGregorio and Lynn Froetscher less than three minutes apart that iced the triumph late in the contest.

Junior keeper Caitlin Hulyo finished with four saves while recording her third shutout of the season and the 13th of her collegiate career.

“That was big-time,” said head coach Geoff Bennett. “Utah is so much better than their record, it's not even funny. I'm extremely proud of our effort today. We're proving to be a very resilient team that fights through whatever adversity we face. This was a game in which we needed a lot of heart, and we responded. That's a good sign.”

The Utes, who had won, 3-2, at Weber State on Friday, dropped to 1-7.

Brown notched her third goal of the season – all on PKs – at the 31:02 mark after DiGregorio was fouled in the box. The infraction was called as the Tigers launched a counter attack following a Utah flurry in which Hulyo made all three of her first-half stops.

DiGregorio upped the count to 2-0 with 11:21 left to play after taking a throw-in pass from sophomore Brittney Lyman. Froetscher added an exclamation point to the victory with 8:43 remaining, gaining possession at midfield and outracing several defenders before beating Utes goalkeeper Hannah Turpen from 18 yards out.

The Tigers will be at Stewart Field for their next four matches, playing host to the University of Northern Colorado on Thursday and Oklahoma State University next Sunday before opening their Conference USA slate at home the following weekend.
