Punchless Tigers fall again, 2-1

Alaska Anchorage completes weekend sweep

Unable to find the back of the net more than once for the second night in a row, Colorado College paid a dear price on Saturday.

CC could manage only a third-period tally by freshman left wing Alexander Krushenyski and suffered a 2-1 defeat to the University of Alaska Anchorage at Sullivan Arena that completed a weekend sweep for the Seawolves, their first of the season.

It also was the first time the Tigers have been swept on the road in 2010-11, and gave them four losses in their last five outings. They dropped to 12-11-1 overall and 8-8 in WCHA play, missing a chance to climb back into fifth place all alone in the league standings.

Instead, Colorado College finds itself in a three-way tie for fifth with Minnesota and Wisconsin, just two points ahead of UAA, now 7-10-3 overall and 6-8-2 in the WCHA. Senior forward Tommy Grant, who factored in on three goals a night earlier, helped set up both Seawolves tallies in Saturday's victory to fashion a five-point weekend.

The Tigers out-shot UAA by a 16-12 margin through two periods but trailed 1-0 entering the third after Grant's feed resulted in Craig Parkinson's power-play goal just 4:41 into the game. CC failed to capitalize on a five-minute power play of its own late in the middle frame, and when Alex Gellert struck for his first goal of the season just 32 seconds into the third, the visitors were in deep trouble.

They were able to launch just two shots on freshman goalie Rob Gunderson in the final stanza, including Krushelnyski's red lighter at 6:59, and fell to Alaska Anchorage for the third time in five meetings this season.

Colorado College will try to get back on track next week with a two-game non-conference series at home against the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
