Gradoz propels Tigers past Oglethorpe

Sophomore guard Marissa Gradoz had a career night at both ends of the court to propel Colorado College to a 68-62 victory over Oglethorpe University on Friday night at Reid Gymnasium.

Gradoz made seven of nine shots from the floor en route to a career-best 19 points, and grabbed a personal record 10 rebounds to complete her first career double-double.

At 5-foot-7, the most impressive aspect of Gradoz's performance was defending 6-foot-2 Sarah Giles, who finished with just seven points.

Becky Luetjen scored 16 points to reach double figures for the 15th time in 17 games. Hannah Hoopingarner added eight points and a career-high eight rebounds.

Hoopingarner put the Tigers ahead to stay at 39-38 when she knocked down a short jumper with 14:28 remaining, and after Sarah Jones pulled the Stormy Petrels to within 41-40, Alyssa Aldaz and Jenny Knapp buried three pointers on back-to-back possessions.

Aldaz gave CC a 10-point lead with 4:28 to go, but the Tigers missed the front end of consecutive one-and-ones and Oglethorpe trimmed its deficit to 65-62 with a minute to play when Katie Weeks converted a three-point play.

Gradoz made a pair of free throws with 44 seconds to go and Luetjen added another with 18 seconds later to seal the victory.

Weeks and Morgan Loughrey had 13 points apiece to lead Oglethorpe, while Giles had a team-high nine rebounds.

The Tigers snapped a three-game skid to even their SCAC record at 4-4 and improve to 7-10 overall. OU slipped to 4-12 overall and 3-5 in the conference.

Colorado College plays host to Sewanee on Sunday.
