Colorado College looks to build upon its highly-successful road trip and maintain sole possession of second place in the Conference USA standings when the Tigers play host to Rice and the University of Houston this weekend.
The Owls visit Stewart Field at 4 p.m. MT on Friday, and the two-game home stand concludes on Sunday with a 2 p.m. contest against the Cougars.
CC improved to 5-4-3 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference after defeating Southern Miss (3-0) and tying then-No. 25 UCF on the road last weekend. The Tigers are undefeated (4-0-2) in their last six games and are 5-1-3 since opening the season with three losses.
Rice, currently tied for third in C-USA with nine points, is 8-3-1 overall and 3-1-0 in C-USA following shutout victories at SMU (1-0) and Tulsa (2-0) last week. Houston, alone in eighth place with three points, dropped to 4-8-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the league following losses at Tulsa (2-1) and SMU (1-0) over the weekend.
Expect a low-scoring contest when Rice visits Colorado Springs on Friday. The teams have combined for 12 shutouts this season and neither team has scored more than twice in any of the five previous games in the series, which the Owls lead by a 3-1-1 count. At Stewart Field, however, the Tigers have a 1-0-1 advantage.
CC owns a 4-1-0 lead in the series with Houston, having won the three previous encounters on its home pitch by a combined score of 5-1. The Tigers dropped a pair of one-goal decisions against the Cougars (1-0) and Owls (2-1) a year ago.
Colorado College's 3-0-1 record to begin its conference slate is the program's best start in six seasons as a member of Conference USA. The Tigers' 3-0 victory at Southern Miss was the program's first shutout on the road since Sept. 12, 2010, at the University of Utah (3-0).
CC goes back on the road for conference games at UAB and Memphis next weekend. The Tigers play under the lights for just the second time this season on Friday, Oct. 14, against the Blazers, and then face the highest-ranked opponent on this year's schedule when they visit No. 6 Memphis on Sunday, Oct. 16.
