More often than not, giving up a goal in the final minute of a period is a bad omen.
And, after allowing the unforunate scenario to occur twice on Saturday, Colorado College certainly won't argue that it's all a bunch of superstition.
The University of North Dakota struck with 17.5 seconds remaining in the first period and with 35 seconds left in the second, then used a shorthanded tally by Tiger nemesis Danny Kristo early in the third to complete a weekend sweep of fourth-ranked CC with a 4-2 victory at Engelstad Arena.
The loss spoiled a second hat trick in as many nights by
Rylan Schwartz, who accounted for all three Colorado College red lighters. The junior center scored his 11th of the season just 40 seconds into the contest. His 12th came at 15:36 of the opening frame, giving his team a 2-1 lead. No. 13 buried his 13th at 13:25 of the third period after Kristo's big play seven minutes earlier had given the Fighting Sioux a 4-2 cushion.
WIth its first sweep of the 2011-12 campaign and its fourth consecutive triumph over the Tigers, North Dakota improved to 6-7-1 overall and 4-6-0 in the WCHA.
CC, which has not won in Grand Forks since Nov. 3, 2007, dropped to 7-4 overall and 5-4 in league play.
Sophomore forward Brock Nelson, who scored twice and added an assist in Friday's 7-6 victory, led UND again with a power-play goal and two assists in the series finale. Nelson knotted the contest at 1-1 early in the first period, then set up Corban Knight's go-ahead marker at 19:25 of the second and Kristo's game winner at 6:09 of the third.
Juniors Kristo and Knight also picked up an assist apiece, while sophomore left wing
Jaden Schwartz factored in on two of his older brother's goals for the Tigers.
Joe Howe finished with 25 saves between the Colorado College pipes. Aaron Dell stopped 26 shots at the other end for the Sioux.
