Tigers packing for St. Paul!

CC rallies in third period to beat Wisconsin, 2-1

In a season speckled with promise, Colorado College leapt to a another new level on Sunday.

CC staged its second third-period comeback in as many nights, striking for a pair of power-play goals less than four minutes apart midway through the frame, and snatched a 2-1 victory from the University of Wisconsin in Game 3 of their first-round WCHA playoff series at the World Arena.

With the triumph, the Tigers earned their first trip to the league's prestigious Final Five tournament in St. Paul, Minn., since 2008. They'll even be the higher seed and designated home team when they take on the University of Alaska Anchorage at the Xcel Energy in Thursday's quarterfinals.

Faceoff for that contest is 7:07 p.m. CT, with the winner scheduled to meet top-seeded University of North Dakota in Friday's semifinals.

Sophomore goaltender Joe Howe was superb in Sunday's victory, finishing with 33 saves.

Senior winger Stephen Schultz scored the game-winning goal at 13:21 of the final stanza after setting up Nick Dineen's tying tally just 3:56 earlier, at the 9:21 mark. Freshman left wing Jaden Schwartz, who was credited with the game winner in Saturday's 4-3 overtime victory that knotted the series at one game apiece, assisted on both red lighters on Sunday.

Both came on rebounds against UW senior netminder Brett Bennett, who was working on a shutout until Dineen fired between his pads after a save on Schultz's blast from the point.

Schultz later made no mistake after his initial shot was blocked by a Badger defender, picking his spot after the puck came right back to him and beating Bennett high on the glove side from the inner edge of the right faceoff circle.

Sophomore center Craig Smith scored Wisconsin's only goal, also during a power play, with 2:38 left in the second period.

It was the fifth meeting between the teams in the last 10 days.

Bennett steered away 24 of 26 shots by Colorado College.

The Tigers improved to 21-17-3 overall while UW saw its season come to an end at 21-16-4.
