The 16th-ranked Tigers, 19-16-3 overall, finished sixth in the WCHA standings with a 13-13-2 record in conference play. CC split with the Badgers in Madison, Wis., last weekend, roaring from behind in the third period on Friday to win by a 3-2 count before dropping a 3-1 decision on Saturday.
Seventh-place and 19th-ranked Wisconsin, which wound up 12-13-3 in conference play, heads to Colorado Springs with an overall mark of 20-14-4.
Friday's playoff opener marks the 177th all-time contest between the teams in a rivalry that began on Jan. 8, 1965. The Badgers own a 107-60-9 advantage in the previous 176 encounters, but have won just three of the last 14 dating back to the 2006-07 season. Colorado College is 10-3-1 against them during that span.
The Tigers own an all-time edge of 10-9-1 in 20 meetings at the World Arena, including a 9-4-1 in the last 14 after dropping five of the first six. They swept UW in a first-round WCHA playoff series 14 years ago, in 1997, at the Air Force Academy's Cadet Ice Arena. Game 2 of that series, a 1-0 CC victory, required four overtimes.
