Colorado Cup up for grabs in August

Tigers to compete for trophy with CU, DU and UNC

Statewide bragging rights finally will be up for grabs in the ranks of Division I women's soccer this fall when the Tigers and three other elite programs battle for the first Colorado Cup http://thecoloradocup.com/The_Colorado_Cup/home.html.

Just as the CC and University of Denver hockey teams compete annually for the coveted Gold Pan, Colorado College will join DU, the University of Colorado and the University of Northern Colorado in a two-day slate of featured match-ups to determine a winner of the new traveling trophy.

This year's inaugural celebration takes place in Boulder and Denver the weekend of Aug. 19-21, with a doubleheader at each site on Friday and Sunday, as well as youth clinics on all four campuses in between, on Saturday, Aug. 20.

The rosters of all four participating schools will showcase Colorado natives – players who have reached the NCAA Division I level after coming up through the various programs endorsed by Colorado Youth Soccer (CYS). The Tigers alone have six student-athletes from the state – Hanna Berglund of Golden, Brittney Lyman of Arvada, Brennan O'Connell of Littleton and Hannah Peterson of Denver, as well as Kelly Browne and Kaeli Vandersluis of Colorado Springs.

There will be plenty more Colorado products with the Pioneers, Buffs and Bears, so future stars in attendance will have a chance to witness what hard work and dedication during their CYS careers can bring them.

Winner of the event, determined by a points system based on outcomes of the matches along with goals scored for and against, will keep the Cup until fall of 2012, when the same four teams kick off another season in Colorado Springs and Greeley.
