Box Score Colorado College turned in another dominating performance on Friday afternoon against Utah State. Unfortunately, the Tigers got nothing to show for it again.
The Aggies scored on their only two shots of the game and escaped Stewart Field with a 2-1 victory in a game that started 30 minutes late because of lightning.
CC launched 21 shots and had a 17-1 advantage in corner kicks, but could produce just one goal for the second game in a row. The loss snapped Colorado College's six-game winning streak in home openers.
“We're sick of saying we were the better team and to look at the stats,” head coach Geoff Bennett said. “We need to finish our chances.”
After barely having possession in the Tigers' end during the first half, lightning struck twice for Utah State early in the second frame. Jennifer Flynn put the Aggies on the board late in the 59th minute, and Shantel Flanary notched her third game-winning goal of the season 67 seconds later.
Kendra Pemberton had an assist on both goals.
CC turned up the pressure and a little less than five minutes later, Madison Whitehead knocked a shot off the right post from 10 yards out.
Colorado College had a golden opportunity to get on the board during the 71st minute when Brittney Lyman was tripped in the penalty area, but Utah State's Molli Merrill made a diving save at the right post on Hannah Peterson's penalty kick.
Merrill finished with three saves.
Lyman finally put the Tigers on the board with 15 minutes to play when she sent a bending shot from the top left corner of the box into the upper right corner, but CC was unable to notch the equalizer.
“The kids are playing well, listening and working hard,” Bennett said. “We're just not getting the results. That needs to change starting Sunday.”
Colorado College (0-3) will shoot for its first victory of the season on Sunday when the Tigers play host to Jacksonville University at noon.
