Tigers fall to Denver in NCAAs

DU advances with 3-1 victory at home in opening round

Box Score Kaitin Bast proved to be a little too much for Colorado College on Saturday.

Bast, a senior forward out of Arapahoe High School, set up teammate Kristen Hamilton for an early go-ahead goal then added a pair of her own in the second half, fueling the University of Denver to a 3-1 victory over the Tigers in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at the DU Soccer Stadium's CIBER Field.

The triumph avenged a 1-0 loss to the Tigers in the 2012 season opener and ended an outstanding campaign for CC, which finished 14-4-5 while earning the program's 10th NCAA bid and first since 2006.

Bast's two tallies, her 11th and 12th of the season, came less than 10 minutes apart and staked the Pioneers to a 3-0 lead before sophomore Kaeli Vandersluis struck for Colorado College in the 78th minute.

Denver, which improved to 16-2-4, finished with a 17-12 in shots including an 8-5 advantage on target against CC keepers Hanna Berglund and Kate Scheele, who each played a half. Four of a match-high five by Bast, who played 79 minutes, were on goal.

Senior midfielder Hannah Peterson assisted on the goal by Vandersluis.
