CC drops road opener to Whitworth

Box Score Colorado College had a disappointing outcome as it played its first game on the road during its 2012-13 campaign. CC fell to Whitworth College, 102-40, Friday evening in Spokane, Wash.   
 
The Tigers held its only lead early in the game when freshman Danielle Davis rebounded her own shot for a layup to put CC ahead, 2-0 with just over a minute to play in the first half.
 
The Tigers' lead didn't last long as the Pirates' Emily Guthrie made a free throw to spark an 11-0 run that was capped by a jumper from Kayla Johnson with 15:20 left in the half.
 
Whitworth (5-1) carried its momentum into halftime with a 56-16 lead and never allowed CC any closer.
 
The Tigers were led by senior Sarah Gunkel with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Davis added nine points.  
 
The Pirates were led by Johnson and KC McConnell with 16 points apiece. Guthrie, Jenna Cacchillo and Jamie Lyons also scored in double figures to aid the offense with 13, 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Colorado College (0-6) continues on the road as it plays Whitman College in Spokane, Wash. on Saturday at 6p.m.
