Colorado College, which won't be returning to this particular corner of Minnesota in the foreseeable future, definitely is not going to miss it.
CC suffered a frustrating 4-1 defeat to Bemidji State University on Saturday that completed a home-ice sweep for the surging Beavers and kept the Tigers winless at 0-3-1 all-time at Sanford Center.
Junior forwards Jordan George and Aaron McLeod each scored a goal and added an assist, helping BSU extend its unbeaten streak to four consecutive games (3-0-1).
Bemidji State, 9-3-1 in its last 13 outings since early December, improved to 15-12-3 overall and 9-10-3 in the WCHA. The Beavers climbed into a tie with St. Cloud State for eighth place in the league standings and within four points of CC, now deadlocked with Nebraska Omaha for fourth at 12-9-1 in conference play.
The Tigers, who slipped to 15-12-3 overall, battled without the services of seven injured regulars, including three of their top five scoring leaders, and got off to a good start in pursuit of a series split.
Junior right wing
Andrew Hamburg pounced on a loose puck to score his first goal of the season late in the opening period, giving Colorado College a 1-0 lead at 19:12.
But the Beavers, jump starting a middle frame in which they out-shot CC by a whopping 18-3 margin, evened the count just 28 seconds into the stanza on George's 15th tally of the season. Shea Walters poked a shot past Tigers netminder
Joe Howe at 11:22, during a BSU power play, to put the home team ahead to stay.
McLeod, who set up the earlier red lighter by George, made it 3-1 on a disputed play with the third period only 21 seconds old. Despite Colorado College's pleas that Howe had been interfered with, referees Todd Anderson and Brad Shepherd upheld the goal after watching the video replay. Danny Matson capped the night's scoring with 8:24 left to play when CC's clearing attempt of a bouncing puck ended up in the back of the cage.
Howe finished with 26 saves while Bemidji State's Dan Bakala stopped 23 of 24 Tiger attempts.
