Pacific, Colgate to visit Stewart Field

WSOC Weekly Release No. 5

Colorado College plays its final two non-conference games of 2012 when the University of the Pacific and Colgate University visit Stewart Field this weekend. Friday's battle of the Tigers starts at 2:30 p.m., while Sunday's contest against the Raiders kicks off at noon.

CC enters Friday's game with a 3-1-3 record after defeating Bryant University (4-0) and Robert Morris University (6-0) last weekend. The Tigers are 2-0-2 at Stewart Field so far this season. Pacific improved to 1-5-0 with a 1-0 triumph over the University of Oregon last Friday. The orange and black Tigers are 0-3 on the road this year. Colgate takes a 5-3-1 record into Friday night's game at Air Force. The Raiders are currently 1-0-1 on the road.

Colorado College averages 2.14 goals per game while allowing just 0.86. Sophomore midfielder Jessie Ayers paces the offense with eight points and is tied for the team lead with three goals and a pair of assists. Senior midfielder Hannah Peterson also has three goals and is tied for second with six points, while senior forward Brittney Lyman also has six points with two goals and two assists.

Freshman goalkeeper Kate Scheele posted a 1-1-3 record, a 1.06 goals-against average and .806 saves percentage during the first five games. Senior Hanna Berglund started both games last weekend and owns a 2-0-0 record, along with a 0.00 GAA and 1.000 saves percentage.

Pacific averages 0.50 goals per contest while giving up 1.83. Junior forward Maricela Padilla has scored two of her team's three goals, including the game winner in last Friday's 1-0 victory over Oregon. Junior Tashia Long made eight saves against the Ducks to improve her record to 1-3-0. She owns a 1.78 GAA along with a .771 saves percentage.

The Raiders average 2.67 goals per game while surrendering 2.11. Colgate features senior forward Jillian Kinter and freshman forward Catherine Williams, who have a team-leading 16 points (6g/4a). Senior goalkeeper Ashley Walsh has played all but 44:34 in goal, recording a 5-3-1 record along with a 2.01 GAA and .673 saves percentage.

With a goal and two assists last weekend, Lyman continued to climb toward the top of the program's all-time goals and points list. With 21 career goals, she is tied for ninth place with Tara Nott (1990-93) and Karen Willoughby (1985-88). Lyman also is tied with Jessica Reyes (2000-01) and Amy Snyder (1992-95) for 15th place with 49 career points. As a freshman in 2009, Lyman set the CC record for goals in a single game with five against UTEP in the regular-season finale on Oct. 30.

Berglund picked up right where she left off last year. In her first two appearances of the 2012 season, she did not allow a goal in 135 minutes and earned a pair of victories as well as her 10th career shutout. Berglund lowered her career goals-against average to 1.03 and raised her saves percentage to .800. She also shared a shutout with junior Cody Kornack, who stopped a pair of shots during the second half against Robert Morris.

A pair of Tigers scored for the first time in their career last weekend, while one other earned her first collegiate point. Freshman defender Sam Curran scored the final goal against Bryant when she blocked a clearing pass, picked up the rebound and calmly moved around the Bulldog's keeper and slid the ball into an open net.

During Sunday's victory over Robert Morris, sophomore Mary Bowman closed out the scoring with her first goal in the 70th minute. The sophomore midfielder buried a header at the left post off a cross from freshman defender Kendall Kultgen, who picked up her first collegiate point.

Colorado College begins C-USA play with two of four consecutive road games next weekend. The Tigers visit Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va., on Friday and East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C., on Sunday.
