Josh Thorimbert certainly deserved a better fate over the weekend.
The senior netminder was a stalwart between the pipes, giving CC a fighting chance in its 2-1 and 1-0 losses at Clarkson University, and on Monday the National Collegate Hockey Conference recognized him for his efforts.
Thomibert, who steered aside 70 of 73 shots on goal in the series for a sparkling .959 saves percentage, has earned accolades as NCHC Goaltender of the Week.Â
He was particularly sharp in Saturday's series finale, when he came within 9.9 seconds of posting his fourth career shutout and preserving the first-ever scoreless tie in 75 seasons of Tiger Hockey. Sixteen of his 42 saves in the game came in the third period and eight more in less than five minutes of overtime before a backhand from the slot eluded him through a partial screen. He made 28 stops in Friday's 2-1 loss.
A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Thorimbert has played all four games for CC so far this season. He owns a goals-against average of 2.21 and a saves percentage of .939 to go with his 1-3 record in net heading into this week's NCHC series at Western Michigan University.
Other conference POWs this week are junior forward Austin Czarnik (offensive) of Miami University, along with sophomore blue-line specialist Ethan Prow (defensive) and freshman forward Ryan Papa (rookie) of St. Cloud State.
