Once again, Colorado College came up with a valiant effort.
Â
The Tigers just could not match Adams State's depth, however, and dropped a 141-93 dual decision to the formidable Division II opponent on Saturday in Alamosa, Colo.
Â
Even so, there were plenty of highlights for CC.
Â
Sophomore
Olivia Dilorati, who has been impressive all season in the butterfly and backstroke events, showed her versatility by winning the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.17) in what head coach
Anne Goodman James called "an exciting down-to-the-finish battle with two Adams State swimmers."
Â
Dilorati also led off the 200 free relay, swimming a 25.47-second split that scored second-place (1:43.66) points for the Tigers with senior
Brenna Day, freshman
Zoe Pierrat and sophomore
Codi Haigney. The split was the team's fastest time of the season in the 50 free.
Â
Another sophomore,
Megan Gillespie, continued her dominance in the 200-yard butterfly, charging from behind in the last 50 yards to win (2:22.31) that event.
Â
Day claimed second place (26.16) in the 50-yard freestyle itself while Dilorati took third in the 200 backstoke (2:25.18) and Gillespie matched that finish in the 400-yard IM (5:15.04). Haigney, meanwhile, was third (5:56.69) in the 500 free, nearly a half minute ahead of the fourth-place finisher from Adam State.Â
