Tigers fall in regular-season finale

Box Score Colorado College's SCAC 2012-13 regular season came to an inconspicuous close on Sunday as the Tigers fell, 77-54, to Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
 
After finishing with a 4-11 record in league play, CC takes a 4-21 overall mark into the conference championship tournament in Sherman, Texas, next weekend. The Tigers enter the playoffs as a No. 6 seed and will open play against host and No. 3 seed Austin College at 3 p.m. (CT) Friday at Hughey Gymnasium.
 
Sophomore Courtney Tyus led CC against Southwestern with 14 points, while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor, draining six of 11 attempts.  Senior Marissa Gradoz also scored in double figures for the Tigers with 10 points.
 
Colorado College went ahead early on a layup by Tyus with 14:33 remaining in the first half, but that was the last lead the Tigers saw as Jordan Owens hit a layup 20 seconds later to spark a 13-2 run for the Pirates.
 
Southwestern, 18-7 overall and 12-3 in SCAC play, went into intermission with a 38-29 advantage. Gradoz scored all 10 of her points during the first half, making three of four attempts from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe.
 
Senior Kalli Kemling opened the second half by hitting a layup to help start a 9-5 run and pull the Tigers to within five points at 43-38 with 16:59 left in the game.
 
CC was unable to come any closer as Southwestern pulled away on a 14-0 run and closed out the contest by allowing only 16 more points.
 
Kemling,  along with freshmen Danielle Davis and Katie Wirth, scored nine points apiece for CC. Freshman Katie Waters led the defense with seven rebounds.
 
Owens paced the Pirates' attack with 15 points, while Chelsea Leeder and Annie Bourne scored 11 and 10, respectively. Bourne picked up a double-double by grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.
