Francesca Garzelloni struck 7:34 into overtime to give the University of Denver a 2-1 victory over Colorado College in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.
Garzelloni scored off a feed from Kristen Hamilton just 14 seconds after DU goalkeeper Cassidy Rey denied a shot by sophomore midfielder Sarah Schweiss.
CC grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute when Schweiss successfully converted a penalty kick, but the Pioneers tied the game a little less than 12 minutes later when Nicholette DiGiacomo capitalized on a PK of her own.
Schweiss unleashed a game-high five shots, four of which were on frame, in her first game for Colorado College.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Scheele made five saves for the Tigers, who finished the game with a 17-14 edge in total shots and an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The game was delayed nearly an hour due to thunderstorms earlier in the evening.
Colorado defeated Northern Colorado, 3-0, in the first game at DU's CIBER Field.
The 2013 Colorado Cup continues on Sunday when CC travels to Boulder to face the Buffs at 2:30 p.m. Denver takes on UNC in the first game.
