Weekly Release No. 4>
Colorado College opens a three-game home stand when Ball State University and the University of Texas visit Stewart Field this week. The Tigers tangle with BSU on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., then play host to the Longhorns at noon on Sunday. Â
 Â
CC enter Friday's contest against the Cardinals with a 2-3-0 record after splitting a pair of decisions at the Marquette Invitational last week. The Tigers defeated Loyola University of Chicago, 4-0, to open the tournament, but fell by a 3-1 count to the host Warriors on Sunday.
Â
Ball State improved to 4-1 with victories over Eastern Illinois University (3-0) and Tennessee Tech (2-0). Texas takes a 3-2-1 ledger into Friday's game at Air Force. The Longhorns defeated Samford (2-0) and Illinois State (2-1) last week at home.
Â
Colorado College and Ball State meet for just the second time on Friday afternoon. The Tigers took the first meeting by a 2-0 count on Sept. 7, 2008. CC and Texas meet for only the third time on Sunday, with both previous encounters ending in shutouts. Colorado College recorded a 3-0 victory in the final game of the 1994 season in Colorado Springs, but UT earned a measure of revenge the following season with a 1-0 triumph in Austin.
Â
With last Friday's victory over Loyola Chicago,
Geoff Bennett became the third head coach in program history to record 100 at CC. His current record of 100-59-25 (.611) ranks third for total victories and fourth for winning percentage. Bennett's teams have registered double-digit wins in six of the last seven seasons.
Â
Dang Pibulvech established school records for both victories and winning percentage with a 119-26-6 (.804) mark from 1983 through 1990. Steve Paul posted an overall ledger of 110-46-8 (.695) from 1975-1982, including a 71-42-6 (.622) mark as a varsity program. Â
 Â
The Tigers average 1.60 goals per game while allowing 1.20. Senior forward
Lynn Froetscher leads the offense with five points (1g/3a), while sophomore midfielder
Sarah Schweiss and freshman forward
Chanisse Hendrix are close behind with two goals apiece. Sophomore
Kate Scheele has played all 457.35 in goal, posting a 1.18 goals-against average and a .769 saves percentage.
Â
During the last three seasons, a stingy defense has been a major factor in Colorado College's success. Since the beginning of the 2011 campaign, the Tigers are 26-3-2 when holding an opponent to one goal or less. Included in that record are 21 shutouts, one of which was a 0-0 tie.
Â
So far this season, the formidable back line of seniors
Sarah Haizlip,
Kecia Morway and
Katie Uyenishi have kept CC's defensive tradition intact. During the first four games, the Tigers allowed only six goals, one on a penalty kick in the 2-1 overtime loss at Denver and another that came on a lucky bounce in the 1-0 defeat at the University of Colorado. When Marquette struck for three goals last Sunday, it marked just the fourth time in 48 games an opponent has scored more than two goals against the Tigers.
Colorado College completes its three-game non-conference home stand when Drexel University invades Stewart Field on Friday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m.
