While the Colorado College volleyball team's record streak came to an end, sophomore libero
Sophie Merrifield extended hers.
Merrifield, who helped the TIegrs win 17 consecutive matches to start the season before Sunday's five-game loss to Trinity University, was honored by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference for the third consecutive week for her performances in Georgetown, Texas, last Saturday and Sunday.Â
This time she was selected SCAC Volleyball Co-Defensive Player-of-the-Week, sharing the distinction with Chandler Lentz of Southwestern University, after averaging 5.94 digs per game over the course of four matches. CC won three of the four to improve to 18-1 overall and 5-1 in league play. Â
Merrifield established a career high with 36 digs during a four-set victory over Southwestern on Saturday, then came back the following day to scoop up 29 in a 3-1 triumph over Texas Lutheran immediately following the loss to Trinty. She has recorded more than 20 digs in a match on seven occasions this season, and has reached double digits in 17 including all four last weekend when she added 95 to her 2013 total.
The SCAC weekly award is the third of her career.
Colorado College returns to its home court at Reid Arena for the first time in nearly a month this Friday and Saturday, playing host to non-conference foes Nebraska Wesleyan University, the University of LaVerne and Hamline University in the annual Spike It Up Classic.Â
