Weekly Release No. 3>
Colorado College plays its final non-conference road contests of the 2013 season when it travels to Milwaukee for the Marquette Invitational. The Tigers square off with Loyola University Chicago in Friday's tournament opener at 5 p.m. CT, then close out the weekend with a match against the host Warriors at 1:30 p.m. CT Sunday. It marks the first time CC plays in the state of Wisconsin since the final two games of the 2005 season in Milwaukee and Madison.
Â
The Tigers enter Friday's encounter against the Ramblers with a 1-2-0 record after defeating Appalachian State University, 4-0, in the Colorado College Invitational last week. CC's second game of the tournament against the University of Vermont was suspended due to lightning with 32:14 to play and officially was declared a "no contest."
Loyola Chicago is 1-0-2 after playing Indiana to a scoreless tie on Sunday. Marquette will take a 2-2 record into Friday's game against St. Mary's College. The Warriors split a pair of games last weekend at the Notre Dame adidas Invitational, dropping a 2-1 decision to No. 4 UCLA and rolling to a 4-1 victory over Oakland University.
Â
With one more victory,
Geoff Bennett would become the third head coach in program history to record 100 at Colorado College. His current record of 99-58-25 (.613) ranks third for total victories and fourth for winning percentage. Steve Paul posted an overall record of 110-46-8 (.695) from 1975-1982, including a 71-42-6 (.622) mark as a varsity program. Dang Pibulvech established both standards with a 119-26-6 (.804) mark from 1983 through 1990.
Â
Three of Colorado College's first-year players made a major impact during the 4-0 victory over Appalachian State. Freshman forward
Chanisse Hendrix became the first Tiger since Emily Beans to score a pair of goals in the first home game of the season. Beans struck for the first two scores in the 3-2 win against Drake University on Aug. 28, 2006. Freshman midfielder
Meghan Kilkenny became the first CC player to record a goal and assist in the home opener since Beans in the 2-0 victory over UC Riverside on Aug. 25, 2006. Defender
Pelemarie Buika earned her first career point with an assist on Kilkenny's tally.
Â
When
Lynn Froetscher assisted on the first-half goal scored by Hendrix against Appalachian State, the odds of Colorado College winning improved dramatically. The Tigers are now 9-0 all-time in games in which the senior co-captain has recorded a point.
Â
During her career, Froetscher has been involved in four game winners, scoring one and assisting on three others. She struck for the GWG in the 2012 season opener against Denver and assisted on the "golden goal" in her collegiate debut, a 1-0 overtime victory against the University of Dayton in 2010. Friday's victory over the Mounaineers marked the first time in her career that she set up two tallies in one game.
Â
Colorado College allowed only three total shots while recording its first shutout of the season against Appalachian State. So far this season, the formidable back line of seniors
Sarah Haizlip,
Kecia Morway and
Katie Uyenishi has permitted only three goals, one on a penalty kick in the 2-1 overtime loss at Denver and another that came on a lucky bounce in the 1-0 defeat at the University of Colorado. In the Tigers' first three games, they have recorded a 45-38 advantage in total shots and a 25-17 edge in shots on target.
Â
The Tigers open a three-game non-conference home stand when Ball State University visits Colorado Springs on Friday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m. Two days later, the University of Texas makes its first appearance at Stewart Field since 1994 for a contest that will kick off at noon.
