Box Score Colorado College dominated the game statistically, but San Jose struck for a pair of early goals and held on for a 3-2 victory on Friday afternoon at the Spartan Soccer Field.

After tallies by Alexis Venegas and Dorthe Hoppius gave SJSU a two-goal lead just 16:12 into the contest, the Tigers cut their deficit in half when junior defender Alexis Long found the net with a header off a cross from senior forward Rachel Herron.

The Spartans re-gained a two-goal lead when Gabriella Strange scored 1:20 into the second half, but from that point on the Spartans had to withstand a furious Colorado College onslaught.

CC pulled to within one when junior forward Chanisse Hendrix struck for the second game in a row with a little more than 25 minutes remaining in the contest, but that proved to be as close as the Tigers would get.

With her second assist of the game, Herron tied junior midfielder Sarah Schweiss for the team lead with 14 points.

Despite outshooting San Jose State 9-1 during the final 30 minutes, Colorado College was unable to notch the equalizer.

Freshman goalkeeper Rowan Fredericksen finished with three saves for the Tigers, who slipped to 9-5-3 overall and 5-3-1 in the Mountain West.

CC recorded a 22-13 advantage in total shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

Zoe Makrigiannis stopped four shots for SJSU, which improved to 6-8-3 overall and 3-5-1 in league play.

Colorado College visits Fresno State on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.
