Box ScoreJared Hanson and
Cody Bradley each had a goal and an assist and
Chase Perry posted his first career win Friday night to lead Colorado College to a 5-2 victory over Wisconsin Friday night at The Broadmoor World Arena. The Tigers, who snapped a seven-game losing streak, improved to 3-7 this season while the Badgers fell to 0-7.
CC senior
Aaron Harstad opened the scoring at the 11:47 mark of the first period with a blast from the right point that eluded Wisconsin goalie Landon Peterson. It was Harstad's career-high third tally of the season. Fellow seniors
Ian Young and
Charlie Taft assisted on the power-play goal, which gave the Tigers their first lead since a 4-3 victory over Alabama-Huntsville on Oct. 11.
"Getting that power-play goal was really big for us," said CC head coach
Mike Haviland. "We did a real good job coming out ready for the start."
Sophomore
Luc Gerdes put CC ahead 2-0 early in the second period when he redirected a shot from
Hunter Fejes in the slot past Peterson for his first tally of the campaign. Bradley started the play and he and Fejes each earned his third assist of the season.
Wisconsin's Morgan Zulinick cut the lead in half with his first goal of the season at the 3:57 mark of the second period. Zulinick came off the bench during a line change, immediately received a pass from Adam Rockwood and fired a shot while falling to his knees from the left circle that beat Perry glove side.
Senior
Scott Wamsganz made it 3-1 at the 12:01 mark with his second goal in as many games. After taking an initial shot that was saved by Peterson, Wamsganz gained the puck during a scrum in front of the Badger net and flipped a shot that went top shelf over the Badger netminder. Sophomore Christitan Heil and Hanson were credited with an assist on the play, Hanson's first point of the season after missing the first six games with an injury. Hanson then notched his second point of the season with his first goal, a blast from the left circle at the 15:42 mark after sophomore
Zach Aman gathered the puck off a Badger turnover in their own zone and found Hanson. CC's 4-1 lead was its first of the season after two periods.
Bradley gave CC its largest lead of the season 9:35 into the third when he found himself on a 2-on-1 with Gerdes. Bradley kept the puck the entire time down the left side and beat Peterson short side for his team-high fifth goal of the season. Fejes, who slipped the pass to Bradley from the Tiger end, earned his second assist of the night and team-leading fourth of the season.
The Badgers' Jason Ford closed out the scoring with 2:32 left in the contest when he beat Perry after slipping into the slot and sending a wrister into the back of the net.
Perry made 24 saves in his first career win, while Peterson also made 24. CC outshot the Badgers, 29-26, and were 1-of-4 on the power play, while the Badgers were 0-for-4 with a man advantage.
The Tigers travel north on I-25 Saturday for a matchup against Air Force at the Cadet Ice Arena. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
