Tigers Downed by No. 11 Miami, 5-1

Box Score | Updated Stats

Riley Barber scored two goals and added an assist Saturday night as the 11th-ranked Miami RedHawks defeated Colorado College, 5-1, at the Steve Cady Arena in Oxford, Ohio. Barber collected all three of his points in the second period and Miami improved to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the NCHC. The Tigers, meanwhile, fell to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in league play.

Scott Dornbrock put Miami ahead 1-0 just 5:20 into the game as he took a pass at center ice from Taylor Richart, weaved through the Tiger defense and beat CC freshman netminder Chase Perry. Sean Kuraly made it 2-0 at the 16:51 mark of the first when he banged home a rebound in front of the net after Perry stopped a shot by Alex Gacek. It is Kuraly's league-leading fifth game-winning goal this season.

The RedHawks put the game away in the second period as Miami outshot the Tigers 24-2 in the frame. Barber scored the first of his two goals at the 5:31 mark when he clanged a shot off the right post through a screen. CC defenseman Aaron Harstad cut the lead to 3-1, blasting a shot from the right point past Jay Williams on the power play at 16:23 for his second tally of the season. Peter Stoykewych and Cody Bradley assisted on CC's first goal with a man advantage since the third period on Oct. 18 against North Dakota.

Barber scored again off a rebound at 18:03 after Perry made a save on Kuraly, then assisted on Louie Belpedio's power-play tally with just 11 seconds remaining in the period. Perry made 21 saves in the second period after making 20 in the middle frame on Friday night. Tyler Marble relieved Perry for the third period.

The Tigers thought they had closed the gap to 5-2 early in the third period, but Jaccob Slavin's apparent goal was overturned after a lengthy video replay due to goaltender interference in the crease. It was the second Tiger goal waved off during the weekend.

Miami held a 41-17 advantage in shots on Saturday and connected on two of its six power-play opportunities while CC was 1-of-7 on the power play. Perry had 28 saves in his two periods of play while Marble collected eight in the third period. Williams made 15 saves for Miami and improved to 7-1 this season.

The Tigers travel to Denver next Friday, Nov. 14, for a game against the Pioneers at Magness Arena beginning at 7:35 p.m.
