Despite several impressive individual performances, the Colorado College women's swimming and diving team dropped a 168-118 decision to Colorado School of Mines Saturday afternoon at Schlessman Natatorium.
"Our women really stepped up and pushed Mines all the way through the meet," head coach
Anne Goodman James said. "We forced a big number of close races."
For the second consecutive dual meet, freshman
Ellen Silk won the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 1.00.26, 1.37 seconds ahead of the Mines' Carrie Kralovic. Fellow freshman
Justina Zuckerman finished third in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events.
"Justina continues to lead our sprint group with outstanding performances," said Goodman James. "We also had a chance to see Ellen win the 100 fly, and to expand effectiveness into the 200 fly."Â

Senior
Katy Martinez posted the third-fastest time in the SCAC for the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:18.85, good for second place at the meet. Several other Big Cats recorded second-place finishes as well, including
Megan Gillespie (200-butterfly, 200-IM), Jackie Nonweier (100- and 200-breaststroke) and
Emily Harrison (500-freetyle). Â
Meanwhile, in diving, freshman
Mary Rose Donahue won both the 1-and 3-meter competitions while teammate
Samantha Buxbaum finished second. Donahue recorded her first NCAA regional qualifying score of 272.08 on the 1-meter board, then won the 3-meter with a score of 235.94. Â Â Â
"We set some very specific process oriented goals set for the team today," Goodman James said. "I am very pleased with the intention with which our team approached all of those goals."
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 15 with a dual meet against Adams State College at Schlessman Natatorium, scheduled for 1 p.m.
