Highlights from NCHC.tvCody Bradley scored for the second time in as many nights and
Chase Perry made 35 saves for Colorado College Saturday night as the Tigers and Western Michigan skated to a 1-1 tie Saturday night in at Lawson Ice Arena. The Broncos claimed the extra point by winning the shootout, 2-1, to move to 6-8-2 overall and 2-6-2-2 in the NCHC. CC, which gained its first point of the season in league play, is now 3-11-1 and 0-8-1-0.
Â
Bradley gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead at the 19:18 mark of the first period with his team-leading seventh goal of the season. He stole the puck behind the WMU net, attempted a wraparound shot and scored from point-blank range after WMU goalie Lukas Hafner saved the initial shot. The Tigers dominated the first period, outshooting WMU 14-8.
Â
The momentum turned in the second period as Western Michigan held a 14-2 shot advantage in the frame but could not get anything past Perry. An apparent goal by Colton Hargrove at the 4:56 mark was disallowed after video review. CC's two shots, which came within the first 3:30 of the period, tied its season-low for shots in one period.
Â
The action was back and forth in the third period until WMU's Nolan LaPorte scored with 4:02 remaining. Hargrove sent him a centering pass and LaPorte buried the shot through a screen past Perry.Â
Â
CC had three shots in the overtime period, including one in the final minute on a backhand by
Christian Heil, who had sliced his way through the Bronco defense but was denied by Hafner.  Â
Â
Kyle Novak and Frederik Tiffels scored in the shootout for Western Michigan, while
Jaccob Slavin put his shot away for the Tigers.
Â
"We played the right way again tonight," said CC head coach
Mike Haviland. "Everybody contributed for 60 minutes. I was really pleased with our effort for a Saturday night, which is something we have struggled with."
Â
Perry was outstanding in the net for CC, making 27 of his 35 saves in the final two periods and overtime, while Hafner had 25 saves for WMU. The Tigers were 0-for-4 on the power play while the Broncos were 0-for-3.
Â
"The thing I am really enjoying right now is seeing our guys get better," said Haviland.
Â
The Tigers take a break for the holidays before hosting the USA National Under-18 team at The Broadmoor World Arena on Dec. 27-28.
