Tigers stumble at UNO, 6-0

Box Score Things never got much better for Colorado College after a rocky start on Friday.

The Tigers, riding a four-game undefeated streak highlighted by three consecutive victories, surrendered a goal just 11 seconds into their weekend opener at the University of Nebraska Omaha and never were able to recover.

UNO added a shorthanded tally at 2:15 of the first period, struck again before the game was six minutes old and rode the early three-goal cushion to a 6-0 victory at the CenturyLink Center in downtown Omaha.

CC will shoot to earn a weekend split of the two-game National Collegiate Hockey Conference series when they face off in a rematch at 7:07 p.m. CT Saturday.

Junior netminder Ryan Massa, a product of Littleton, Colo., steered aside all 20 shots he faced to record the shutout in Friday's contest.

Massa got more than enough offensive support from junior forwards Josh Archibald, who scored twice, and Dominic Zombo, who dished out three assists.

Sophomore center Cody Bradley led Colorado College, which dropped to 6-19-6 overall and 6-10-5-1 in the NCHC, with four shots. Junior goaltender Courtney Lockwood, who entered the game early in relief of starter Josh Thorimbert, finished with 23 saves.

Senior Brock Montpetit and freshman Jake Guentzel, younger brother of former Tiger defenseman Gabe, added a goal and an assist apiece for the Mavericks, who improved to 14-15-2 overall and 11-8-2-1 in league play. Montpetit's red lighter was the first shorthanded goal that CC has allowed this season.
