Nebraska top Tigers in exhibition game

Colorado College went toe-to-toe with No. 13 Nebraska, but the Huskers scored twice during the final 10 minutes to record a 5-3 victory in an exhibition game on Friday afternoon at Stewart Field.

Senior forward Rachel Herron gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead when she drilled the ball off the crossbar just under two minutes into the second half. Herron launched a shot from 10 yards out after taking a pass from freshman midfielder Maddi Dunn.

Nebraska tied the game in the 57th minute when Jaycie Johnson found the net with a crossing shot from the left side, and she put the Huskers ahead to stay with 9:52 to play. Katie Kraeutner sealed the victory on a direct kick in the 89th minute.

Johnson put Nebraska on the board at the 15:26 mark, but consecutive tallies by senior midfielders Kaeli Vanderluis and Jessie Ayers gave CC a 2-1 advantage in the 30th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Rowan Fredericksen made a pair of saves in the first half, while junior Heather Seeley stopped one shot during the final 45 minutes.

Sophomore Kelly Schatz steered aside three shots while going the distance in goal for the Huskers.

Colorado College officially kicks off its 2014 campaign on Friday, Aug. 22, at the University of Northern Colorado.
