Abbe Holtze and the Colorado College volleyball team got back into the swing of things on Friday in Whittier, Calif. as it swept Chapman University and host Whittier College.

The sixth-ranked Tigers, who have reached their highest national ranking since they were last ranked No. 5 in the 2010 AVCA preseason poll, held their opponents to a combined .073 hitting percentage on the day.

Holtze led CC with 14 kills and added 11 digs in a 25-23, 25-15, 25-18 victory over Chapman. The outside hitter then came back in the last match of the day with 13 kills to lead the team again offensively.

The Tigers held the Panthers (2-7) to a .090 hitting percentage, while adding 10 blocks as a team on defense. Sophomore
Keli Sherwood led the team having a hand on a career-high eight blocks.

Colorado College (10-1) carried its strong defensive play into the final match of the day when it beat Whittier, 25-19, 25-18, 25-20, by holding the Poets to a .052 attack percentage on 30 kills, while forcing 25 errors in 96 attempts.

This was the fifth and sixth time this season the Tigers have held their opponents to a .100 hitting percentage or less.

Kristen Liberty added to the offense with 10 kills against Whittier (1-5), while freshman
Sarah Barker dished out a team-high 19 assists.

Sophie Merrifield led the team in the back row during both matches contributing with a combined 26 digs and five services aces on the day.

The Tigers return to Action on Saturday in La Verne, Calif. as it plays Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and host University of La Verne at 3 p.m. PT and 6 p.m. PT, respectively.
