Box ScoreNinth-ranked UMass-Lowell completed a weekend sweep with a 2-1 victory over Colorado College Saturday night at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass.
Â
Freshman
Trey Bradley cut a 2-0 UML lead in half with his team-leading third goal of the season at the 11:17 mark of the second period. Bradley gathered the puck off the boards from a shot by sophomore
Teemu Kivihalme and placed his own shot from the left circle inside the near post. Kivihalme and junior
Sam Rothstein each collected his third helper of the season on the play.
Â
The Tigers, who dropped their third consecutive one-goal decision, did all they could to tie the game by outshooting the River Hawks 20-14 in the final two periods. Junior goalie
Tyler Marble also did his job very well the last half of the game, keeping UML off the scoreboard for the final 36 minutes.
Â
The River Hawks (3-0) took a 1-0 lead at the 15:05 mark of the first period when Niklas Folin fed Adam Chapie, who was streaking down the slot in front of the net. Chapie nudged the puck just enough and CC Marble got his glove on it before it fell into the net.
Â
Ryan McGrath made it a 2-0 game 4:17 into the second period as a fluttering puck was redirected to him as he was standing at the left side of the net and placed one into an open net.
Â
"We were much better tonight than last night," Colorado College head coach
Mike Haviland said. "We made some adjustments and gave ourselves a real chance to win. I was really happy with the way we competed tonight."
Â
Each team finished the game with 24 shots and 0-3 on the power play. Marble had 22 saves, while UML netminder Kevin Boyle finished with 23.
Â
"Tyler was really good for us tonight," Haviland said. "It was nice to see him play well after the other guy (
Jacob Nehama) played two games in a row."
Â
The Tigers (0-4) host No. 4/3 Boston College for a two-game series next weekend at The Broadmoor World Arena.
