Box Score Senior captain
Sarah Schweiss continued her scoring spree Friday afternoon at Stewart Field as she notched her third consecutive game-winning goal 20 seconds into overtime to lead the Colorado College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Colorado State.
Schweiss, who has now scored CC's last four goals, took a centering pass from
Rae Conlon and fired a shot from 21 yards out that just cleared the outstretched arms of CSU goalie Jesse McGinley and under the crossbar. Conlon has assisted on Schweiss last three goals, including both in a 2-1 win at UNLV last Sunday.
"Coming off two road wins we wanted to come out strong and defend our home turf," Schwiess said. "It's a good feeling to score the game-winner, but my teammates put me in good situations. It was a team effort today."
The Tigers (5-6-1, 3-0-0 MW) dominated most of the 90 minutes of regulation, attempting 21 shots to just eight for the Rams (3-7-2, 0-2-1 MW). McGinley made 10 saves, including an outstanding stop on Schweiss in the 13th minute, and Schweiss had a shot clang off the crossbar in the ninth minute.
"We had a lot of chances today, a lot of credit goes to their goalie," head coach
Geoff Bennett said. "We hit a couple of crossbars and she had a couple of great saves. We did a great job of not putting our heads down and kept playing the way we wanted to play."
Sophomore goalie
Louisa Mackenzie saved both shots on goal by Colorado State.
The Tigers will continue their four-match homestand on Sunday against the Wyoming Cowgirls at Stewart Field beginning at 2 p.m.
