Abbe Holtze led No. 7 Colorado College to a 3-1 victory over host Johnson & Wales University during the first day of the JWU Volleyball Tournament, Friday evening in Denver.

Holtze earned her 15th double-double of the season with 17 digs and a team-best 16 kills. The outside hitter hit a .324 attack percentage with 16 kills on a team-high 37 attempts with just four errors.

The Tigers came out strong in the first set on a match-high .333 (13-4-27) hitting percentage to earn a dominate 25-16 victory to take the early one-set lead.

CC held a 21-16 lead late in the second set, but JWU compiled a 5-0 run to tie the set at 21 apiece. The set was tied again at 23-23, but a pair of attack errors by the Tigers gave the Cougars the 25-23 win to tie the match.

CC came back in the third set, forcing Johnson & Wales (12-23) into hitting a match-low -.065 hitting percentage on eight errors in 31 attempts with just six kills. The Tigers won the match handedly with a 25-16 victory. Â

With the fourth set tied at 19-19, Colorado College went on a 6-1 run that ended with sophomore
Reagan Folaron and Holtze each hammering down a kill to seal the 25-20 victory. Â

Junior
Rebecca Watson organized the offense with a season-high 32 assists as the Tigers improved to 31-2 on the season. Freshman
Audrey Dervarics also earned a season-high with 11 assists to aid the offense.

Senior
Sophie Merrifield led the defense with 20 digs, while freshman
Myca Steffey-Bean added a team-high five blocks and six kills at the net.

Colorado College continues play in Denver as it takes on Stephens College at noon and Central Christian College at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
