Schweiss Strikes Again In Overtime

Box Score It was just a matter of time.

Colorado College forced overtime by keeping the University of Wyoming off the scoreboard during the final 55 minutes of regulation, and the extra time gave Sarah Schweiss the opportunity she had been working hard to create.

Schweiss scored 6:35 into overtime on a header off a corner kick by freshman midfielder Anna Gregg to give CC a 2-1 victory over the Cowgirls at Stewart Field.

With their fourth consecutive win, the Tigers took over sole possession of first place in the Mountain West with a 4-0-0 record and leveled their season mark at 6-6-1.

The senior midfielder also extended her game-winning goal streak to four with the last two being Golden Goals.

Sophomore defender Anne-Sophie Lapointe gave Colorado College a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when she drilled a direct kick from 23 yards out on the right into the upper left corner for her first collegiate goal.

Wyoming tied the game with a little less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half when sophomore midfielder Alisha Bass converted on a penalty kick after the Tigers were called for a handball in the box.

CC's Louisa Mackenzie guessed correctly, but the shot went past her fingertips at the right post. That, however, was the only shot that eluded the sophomore goalkeeper.

Junior forward Shaina Ashouri, who is tied for first in the league with seven goals, nearly gave Wyoming the lead in the 62nd minute, but her crossing shot from the right side of the box went off the left post.

The Cowgirls' other scoring threat occurred with a little more than four minutes remaining in the first half when sophomore forward Kaitlyn Lomsnes rolled a ball through the box from the right side, but neither Kimmy Burbank nor Katie Marcheso could get a toe on it.

Mackenzie also came off her line to grab make diving grabs on a pair of dangerous crosses to prevent point-blank scoring opportunities.

Wyoming launched 19 total shots, but put just three on frame. Meanwhile, the Tigers took five shots, four of which were on target.

Colorado College continues its four-game home stand on Thursday, Oct. 8, when they play host to Fresno State at 3 p.m.
