This Week
Colorado College plays a home-and-home series against cross-town rival Air Force this weekend, Nov. 27-28, in the battle for the Pikes Peak Trophy. Friday's game  will be at the Cadet Ice Arena beginning at 7:05 p.m., while Saturday's contest will be played at The Broadmoor World Arena. The puck drops at 7:07 p.m. on the 28th.

Pikes Peak Trophy
In 2013, Colorado College and Air Force established the Pikes Peak Trophy in memory of former CC and Falcons head coach John Matchefts. Air Force claimed the trophy last year with a 3-1 victory at The Broadmoor World Arena. Matchefts compiled a record of 54-88-3 in five seasons (1966-71) at the Colorado College helm before posting a ledger of 154-150-6 in 11 years (1974-85) with Air Force. He previously enjoyed an outstanding playing career at the University of Michigan under Vic Heyliger in the early 1950s, helping the Wolverines claim three national championships.

Last Time Out
The Tigers were shutout twice at home last weekend, losing to 17th-ranked Minnesota Duluth 5-0 on Friday and 6-0 on Saturday. On Friday, Austin Farley put UMD on the board just 1:12 into the contest with a wrister from the left circle that got past CC goalie Tyler Marble (Detroit, MI), then the Bulldogs put the game away with three goals in a span of 4:14 midway through the second period. Marble finished the game with 34 saves ... On Saturday, Farley again scored twice, including the first of the game with 1:12 left in the first period, followed 16 seconds later by a goal from Dominic Toninato. The Bulldogs added two goals in each of the last two periods. Freshman goalie Jacob Nehama (Allen, TX) had 25 saves for the Tigers.

For the Record
Colorado College is 0-12 overall and 0-6 in the NCHC following its two losses to Minnesota Duluth ... Air Force is 4-6-2 overall and 3-3-2 in Atlantic Hockey after tying (1-1) and winning (3-2) at Sacred Heart last weekend.

Up Next
The Tigers host NCHC foe University of Miami on Dec. 4-5 at The Broadmoor World Arena.

The Coaches
Mike Haviland (Elmira College, '90) is in his second season at the helm of the Tigers. He came to Colorado College after serving one year as head coach of the Hershey Bears (AHL). Haviland was an assistant coach for the Chicago Blackhawks from 2008-12, helping the team win the Stanley Cup in 2010 … Frank Serratore (Bemidji State, '82) is in his 19th season at Air Force and has a 313-304-68 record at the Academy. He has an overall mark of 362-396-77 in 23 seasons as a collegiate head coach. He has led the Falcons to five Atlantic Hockey championships and five NCAA appearances in the last nine years.

On the Air
All CC games in 2015-16, home and away, will be broadcast live throughout Southern Colorado on KRDO NewsRadio 105.5 FM and 1240 AM, featuring Ken Landau with the play-by-play. Pre-game shows start 37 minutes before faceoff. The broadcasts also can be heard worldwide via the Internet.

Scouting the Opposition
Senior forward Ben Carey (2g,5a) leads the Falcons in scoring with seven points, followed by sophomore Jordan Himley with six (3g,3a). Freshman goaltender Shane Starrett has played in 10 games and has a 2.37 goals-against average this season.

Previous Meetings
Colorado College holds a 59-10-2 advantage in the all-time series with Air Force, but the Falcons have won three of the last four games. CC owns a 28-6-1 record at the Academy and a 31-4-1 record at home against AFA.

Penalty Kill Stays Strong ...
Colorado College killed off seven of Duluth's nine power plays last weekend and has erased 33 of the last 38 overall (86.8%) heading back to the second period of the Oct. 16 game at UMass-Lowell. The Tigers have killed off 79.2 percent of its opponents' power plays this year.

But Power Play Struggling
After going 4-for-11 on the power play in the season-opening series against UMass,  the Tigers have converted only one of their last 42 man-advantage opportunities, including an 0-for-6 performance against Minnesota Duluth.

A Break From The Top 20
Air Force is the first opponent since UMass (opening weekend) that is not ranked in the top 20. The two games against Minnesota Duluth were the ninth and 10th consecutive CC played against teams ranked in the top 20. CC's six opponents this season have a combined record of 47-15-14, good for a .711 winning percentage.

Freshmen Making Their Mark This Season
So far this season, freshmen have accounted for 22 of CC's 42 points, including eight of the team's 15 goals. Adding in the sophomores, underclassmen have 28 of the team's 42 points and 10 of the 15 goals.

Nehama Records Most Saves in 18 Years
Nehama's 52 saves at UMass-Lowell on Oct. 16 were the most in one game by a CC goalie since Judd Lambert made 60 in a four-overtime victory (1-0) over Wisconsin on March 8, 1997. UML's 55 shots on Friday were also the most by an opponent since Wisconsin recorded 60 in that same game.

Scoring Brothers
Cody and Trey Bradley (Tampa, FL) each gathered an assist on freshman Trevor Gooch's (Mantua, NJ) goal against UMass-Lowell on Oct. 16, becoming the first set of brothers to record a point on a CC goal since March 9, 2012 (Jaden and Rylan Schwartz).

Seven Opponents Played in Postseason
Seven of Colorado College's 12 opponents this season played in the NCAA Division I Hockey Tournament last season. NCHC foes North Dakota, Denver, St. Cloud State, Miami, Nebraska Omaha and Minnesota Duluth as well as Boston College were among the 16 teams to battle for the national championship last spring. North Dakota and
Nebraska Omaha advanced to the national semifinals.

Tough Schedule Last Season ...
Colorado College finished the 2014-15 season with the seventh-toughest schedule in the country, according to the Division I RPI. In fact, the eight NCHC schools occupied the top eight spots on the list. CC played 21 of its 35 games last year, including 13 of its last 17, against teams ranked in the top 12 in the country.

And Even Tougher This Year
Seven of Colorado College's 12 opponents this season are ranked in this week's USCHO.com Top 20 poll, including six that are ranked in the top nine. The Tigers' five previous opponents, UMass-Lowell (#4), Boston College (#2), North Dakota (#5), Denver (#9) and Minnesota Duluth (#17), are all ranked in the top 20 this week.

Kivihalme Near the Top Among D-Men
With his power-play goal Nov. 6 at Denver, sophomore Teemu Kivihalme (Savage, MN) is among the top-scoring defensemen in the NCHC. He is tied for third with two goals and tied for sixth with six points.

This Year's Leadership
Junior forward Sam Rothstein (Minnetonka, MN) is serving as the team captain in 2015-16. Rothstein, the first junior to be named captain at CC since Mark Stuart in 2004-05, scored 14 points (6g,8a) as a sophomore and has missed just four games in his career … Senior forward Cody Bradley (Tampa, FL), who led the team in scoring with 30 points last season, and junior forwards Zach Aman (Johnstown, PA) and Christian Heil (Westminster, CO) are the alternate captains.
