After a scoreless first period in which UNO outshot CC 12-8,
Aaron Harstad gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead 1:27 into the second period with a one-timer from just inside the blue line that snuck past Kirk Thompson, who was a short-notice starter after Ryan Massa was injured during warmups.
Cody Bradley started the play by winning a faceoff and
Scott Wamsganz tipped the puck back to Harstad at the left point.
Â
Justin Parizek evened things up at 1-1 with his third goal of the weekend with 7:15 remaining in the second period when he knocked in a rebound from the slot after CC goalie
Tyler Marble saved a shot by Tyler Vesel. Guentzel then gave the Mavericks a 2-1 lead with 4:30 left in the period as he corralled a loose puck just to the left of Marble and placed a shot over his outstretched leg.
Â
Matt Hansen tied the game at 2-2 for the second straight night at the 7:06 mark of the third period when he took a pass from
Hunter Fejes at the top of the right circle and placed a shot just inside the far post behind Thompson.

Â
It looked like the two teams would head to overtime for the second consecutive night until Ortega took a drop pass from David Pope and sent a wrister over Marble's left shoulder from the left circle. Guentzel then notched his second of the game into the empty net.

Neither team connected on a power play as CC failed to score with a man advantage for the first time in seven games. Gerdes tied his career-high with a team-high five shots, followed by Wamsganz with four.
Â
