Box Score Colorado College picked up some valuable experience on Sunday, but the University of Colorado came away with a 3-0 victory in a Colorado Cup match at Prentup Field.

"I am really proud of how much we grew today," head coach Geoff Bennett said. "We were playing with so many new players on the field for the majority of the game and we made major strides from Friday.

"We will continue to get better and get experience, and I am really excited about the season ahead."

Erin Greening put the Buffs on the board at the 24-minute mark when she found the net on a shot that went off the crossbar from 16 yards out on the right side.

CU doubled its lead with a little more than nine minutes to play in the first half on Emily Paxton's header from the center of the box that found the net inside the left post.

Brie Hooks closed out the scoring in the 51st minute with her second goal of the season.

CC's best scoring opportunity occurred with a little more than two minutes to play before halftime when senior midfielder Sarah Schweiss launched a shot that was denied by Colorado goalkeeper Kate Scheele.  

Sophomore goalkeeper Louisa Mackenzie recorded six of her seven saves during the second half. She made a diving stop on Amy Alexander's shot to the far post from the right side in the 74 minute, and then scooped up a hard ball off the foot of Danica Evans just over 10 minutes later.

The Buffs, who improved to 1-0-1, finished with a 15-7 advantage in total shots and earned all five of the game's corner kicks.

Colorado College (1-1-0) returns to action on Sunday, Aug. 30, when the University of Pittsburgh visits Stewart Field at 11 a.m.
