Abbe Holtze led the No. 11 Colorado College volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of the University of Dallas to complete the first weekend of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action in Shreveport, La. on Sunday.

Holtze earned her second double-double of the weekend and fifth of the season with a team-best 14 kills along with 12 digs. The outside hitter needs only 15 more kills to become the ninth player all-time to record 1,000 career kills.

The Tigers defense came up strong as they held the Crusaders to a .028 attack percentage. Dallas committed 22 attack errors in 109 attempts, while hitting 25 kills. This is the seventh time this season that CC has kept its opponents to under a .100 hitting percentage.

Senior duo
Sophie Merrifield and
Courtney Birkett led the defense for the Tigers. Merrifield led the backrow picking up a team-best 16 digs, while Birkett led the team at the net with a career-high five blocks.

During the first set the teams were tied late in the game at 22-22, but plays by sophomore
Amelia Mouw and junior
Keli Sherwood helped CC get the early first-set win. Mouw and Sherwood each had a kill to give the Tigers a 24-22 lead and they united for a block to earn set point.

CC won the next two sets 25-18, 25-14 as it held Dallas to a .000 attack percentage in each of the sets.

Rebecca Watson and sophomore
Sarah Barker split time running the offense for the Tigers, who improved to 12-1 on the season and 3-0 in SCAC play. Watson led the team with 17 assists, while Barker added 11.

The Crusaders were led by Jaime Birzer with eight kills. With the loss, Dallas dropped to 6-7 on the season and 1-2 in the conference.

Colorado College continues conference play on the road as it travels to San Antonio, Texas on Sept. 26-27. The Tigers will begin the weekend against Trinity University at 12:30 p.m.
