th game of the season.

After combining for five goals in the first period Friday night, the two teams were scoreless after the first 20 minutes on Saturday. Most of the play was in the CC end and starting goalie
Tyler Marble made 12 saves in the first period.

Mike Gornall opened the scoring as he tipped in a shot by Christian Wolanin for his first career goal to give UND a 1-0 lead at the 10:12 mark of the second period. Austin Poganski scored just 1:08 later, beating Marble on the short side.

Bryn Chyzyk put the Fighting Hawks (20-3-3, 11-2-1-1 NCHC) ahead 3-0 just 1:26 into the third period by finishing off a 2-on-1 with Luke Johnson and  Gardner came out of the penalty box and scored on a rebound to make it 4-0 at the 6:01 mark.

Andrew Farny put the Tigers on the board at the 12:37 mark of the third period with a wrister from the right point that eluded Johnson. As the goal was scored, UND's Gage Ausmus was whistled for a five-minute major for boarding. Midway through the power play, CC coach
Mike Haviland pulled Marble for an extra attacker, but Gardner scored an empty-netter for the final tally with 3:52 remaining in the game.

Marble finished with 27 saves as the Tigers fell to 5-18-1 overall and 3-10-1 in league play.

"The first thing we talked about after the game was that we didn't compete," Haviland said. "They wanted it more than we did. It was disappointing that we didn't play with the purpose we did last night."

The Tigers return home to play at the Broadmoor World Arena for the first time since Dec. 5 with a series against Nebraska-Omaha next weekend, Jan. 29-30.

"It will be nice to be in front of our fans and give them something to be happy about," Haviland said.
