Tigers' Comeback Falls Short

Box Score Colorado College used a 12-0 run in the final 3:08 remaining in the game to trail Concordia University Texas 64-63 with just 2.2 seconds left on the clock in the Tigers' first game of the Pikes Peak Holiday Classic on Thursday evening in Reid Arena.
 
After the Tornados missed a pair of free throws and sophomore guard Payton Katich grabbed the rebound with three seconds left on the clock, CC called its final time out of the game to advance the ball to midcourt with 2.2 seconds remaining.
 
Junior guard Francesca Cendali got the ball and shot from the top, right side of the box, but her jumper hit the left side of the rim as time expired to hand Concordia-Texas the 64-63 victory.
 
Freshman guard Alyssa Marquez made a three-pointer with 3:41 left on the clock to give the Tornados a 64-51 lead; however, sophomore guard Casey Torbet struck back draining a three-pointer of her own with 3:08 remaining in the game to ignite the 12-0 run.
 
Freshman guard Nia Duplain hit back to back layups and Katich made a three-pointer and a layup to close to within a point with six seconds left on the clock.
 
With only three team fouls, CC was forced to foul twice to send Concordia-Texas to the charity stripe in order to get the ball back with three seconds remaining.
 
Colorado College was led by Duplain with season-highs of 17 points and seven rebounds. Katich earned a career-high 14 points and seven rebounds, while Torbet added 14 points. Sophomore guard Kaylyn Radtke led the team on the boards tying a season-high eight rebounds.
 
After Duplain made a pair of free throws with 7:11 left in the second quarter, the Tornados used a 10-0 run to earn a 29-19 lead with 4:21 remaining. Duplain cut the lead again to 33-27 with 1:11 left, but sophomore guard Mercedes Ellison hit a layup with five ticks on the clock to give Concordia-Texas a 35-27 edge at halftime.
 
The Tornados (9-2) were led by junior guard Jaela Dejean and Ellison with 13 points apiece, while freshman forward Kaycie Dunkerley added 11 points. Senior guard Emily Cullers and Marquez led the team on the boards with seven rebounds each.
 
Colorado College returns to action on Friday at 4 p.m. as it completes the Pikes Peak Holiday Classic against North Park University in Reid Arena.
