Box ScoreJay Williams made 24 saves for his second shutout of the weekend and Miami scored three times in the third period to hand Colorado College a 4-0 defeat Saturday night in Oxford, Ohio.
Â
"We played much harder than we did last night," head coach
Mike Haviland said. "We just have to bear down and score some goals. Williams made some crucial saves during timely parts of the game for them."
Â
Despite being shorthanded due to injuries, the Tigers (6-25-1, 4-17-1 NCHC) put forth a solid effort for the first 50 minutes, mostly due to the play of junior goalie
Tyler Marble, who equaled his season high with 40 saves. Marble was in the net for
Jacob Nehama, who had started the previous seven games. Nehama and junior captain
Sam Rothstein did not play Saturday night.
Â
After 33 minutes of scoreless hockey, Richart put Miami (15-14-3, 9-11-2-2 NCHC) on the board at the 13:04 mark of the second period as his wrister from the right point glanced off Marble's glove and in the net. Justin Greenberg and Zach Lavalle assisted on the play.
Â
Marble was instrumental in the score staying 1-0 through the first half of the third period with several spectacular saves. After
Cody Bradley was called for interference during a CC odd-man rush, Kevin Morris gave Miami a 2-0 lead at the 11:04 mark of the third period with a one-timer from the slot as the power play was about to expire.
Â
"Tyler played really well tonight," Haviland said. "We took an offensive zone penalty and they capitalized."
Â
Kiefer Sherwood made it 3-0 just 1:27 later and Anthony Louis put in an empty-netter as time expired for the final goal of the game.
