The Colorado College men's tennis team nearly pulled off an impressive comeback Friday, but fell just short in a 5-4 loss to Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas.

The Mountaineers took an early 3-0 lead by winning all three doubles matches. CC nearly took the No. 2 match, but senior
Taylor Delehanty and sophomore
Brian Chen were edged by Isaac Vasquez and Josh Newman, 9-7. Â

The Tigers, 6-15 and 0-2 in the SCAC, rallied to win four of the six singles matches. Junior
Jason Gutierrez took the No. 1 match, 7-5, 7-5, over Nick Pena, while Delehanty was extended to a third set before defeating Newman, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Daniel Holland won the No. 2 match and senior
Casey Shaw was victorious at No. 6. Schreiner won the Nos. 4 and 5 matches in straight sets to seal the team victory.

The Tigers wrap up the 2016 regular season on Sunday, April 17 against Texas Lutheran in Georgetown, Texas. The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. (CT).
