Northern Arizona Stuns Tigers In Overtime

Box Score It was a tale of two halves between the Northern Arizona and Colorado College women's soccer teams on Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field.

The Tigers controlled most of the first half and led 1-0 after sophomore forward Clara Richter knocked in the rebound of her penalty kick in the 42nd minute.

But the second half belonged to the visiting Lumberjacks and they escaped Stewart Field with a 3-2 victory after junior forward Adrian Nixt scored on a header 1:08 into overtime.

Northern Arizona tied the game 6:05 into the second half when CC was unable to clear a bouncing ball from the box and freshman defender Amanda Bennett slipped it inside the left post.

The Lumberjacks took their first lead in the 67th minute when junior defender Riley Porter settled a goal kick in the middle third, dribbled toward the Colorado College goal and lofted a shot over goalkeeper Molly Hiniker from 30 yards.

The Tigers leveled the score with a little more than 15 minutes to play when freshman midfielder Molly Lyons found the net from the penalty spot with a shot to the upper right corner.

The penalty was awarded when Richter was taken down in the box by NAU goalkeeper Meghan Dickmann, who came off her line to challenge CC's leading goal producer as she jumped to head the ball.

Colorado College had a pair of dangerous opportunities during the final nine minutes of regulation time.

Lyons sent a header from 10 yards just past the far post in the 82nd minute, and then Richter hit the crossbar with 1:24 to play when she chipped the ball over Dickmann's head from 15 yards out in the center of the box.

Northern Arizona finished the contest with a 23-20 edge in total shots while the Tigers had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Hiniker made six saves for CC, which completed the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 4-4 record.

Dickmann stopped seven shots for the Lumberjacks, who improved to 3-5-1 on the season.

Colorado College kicks off its Mountain West schedule on Friday night at the University of New Mexico.
