Tyler Vesel scored twice and Luc Snuggerud had a goal and an assist Friday night to lead Omaha to a 5-2 victory over Colorado College at The Broadmoor World Arena, snapping the Tigers' four-game unbeaten streak.

Vesel scored the first two goals for the Mavericks (12-8-3, 5-6 NCHC), both on the power play. After CC freshman
Branden Makara opened the scoring with an unassisted goal on a breakaway at the 9:19 mark of the first period, Vesel took a pass from Jake Randolph and evened things up with rocket from the slot that beat Tiger goalie
Alex Leclerc.

Senior
Luc Gerdes had a chance to give the Tigers the lead midway through the second period, but Omaha goalie Kris Oldham stopped him on a breakaway, then Vesel put the Mavs ahead for good by putting home a rebound less than one minute later.

David Pope scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 13:53 mark of the second period to give Omaha a 3-1 lead.

The Tigers (6-13-2, 2-7-2 NCHC) fought back in the third as sophomore
Mason Bergh scored his team-high 11
th goal of the season after taking a cross-ice pass from senior
Luc Gerdes and finding the open net behind Oldham. Senior
Matt Hansen also assisted on the play. In the last five games, the line of Gerdes (1g, 7a), Bergh (4g, 1a) and Hansen (1g, 5a) has combined for 19 points.

CC came close to tying the score less than a minute later when freshmen
Nick Halloran and
Kade Kehoe each had a shot saved by Oldham and sophomore
Tanner Ockey clanged one off the post.

Omaha entered the game with the nation's second-best power-play, connecting on 25.4 percent of its chances. The Tigers took three penalties in the first and two in the second and the Mavericks capitalized on two of their six power-play chances. CC was 0-for-3 on the power play.

"We were good the first part of the first period, then we took some undisciplined penalties and they got the momentum," head coach
Mike Haviland said. "This is a game about momentum. We score to make it 3-2 and have it, then gave it back with another penalty."

Omaha's Austin Ortega put the game away with 2:09 remaining and Snuggerud tacked on a shorthanded empty-net goal with 1:29 left in the third.

Oldham finished with 26 saves, while Leclerc had 23. Halloran led all players with five shots.

The teams will wrap up the weekend series Saturday, Jan. 14 at 6:07 p.m. (MT).
