Tigers Fall To Austin

Box Score A late run in the first quarter by Austin College helped give the 'Roos an 82-51 victory over the Colorado College women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon in Sherman, Texas.

Sophomore guard Casey Torbet gave the Tigers a 12-10 lead when she drained a shot from beyond the arc with 2:10 remaining in the first quarter, but Austin's Kendall Heitmeier scored 11 straight points during a 1:45 span to hand the 'Roos a 21-12 lead after 10 minutes of action.

Sophomore guard Payton Katich cut the lead to 21-14 with a jumper 35 seconds into the second quarter, but that proved to be as close as CC would get as Austin outscored the Tigers 21-8 during the remainder of the second quarter.

Colorado College was led by Katich with eight points, while Torbet and junior guard Francesca Cendali added seven points apiece.

Senior forward Korbyn Ukasick helped lead the Tigers on the boards with a season-high eight rebounds along with freshman guard Nia Duplain, who also added eight rebounds.

Austin College, which improved to 12-4 on the season and 4-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, shot 46.2 percent from the field making 30 of 65 field-goal attempts, while holding CC to a 31.1 field-goal percentage on 19-of-61 shooting.

Heitmeier led the 'Roos offensively with 22 points, while picking up eight rebounds on defense. Bryce Frank picked up a double-double on 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, while Kendra Rainey added 12 points.

Colorado College, which dropped to 2-14 and 1-4 in the SCAC, will return home for a pair of SCAC matches on Friday and Sunday. The Tigers begin the week against Trinity University at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 20.
