Nick Halloran had a career-high four points with a goal and three assists and
Trey Bradley added three helpers of his own to lead Colorado College to a 6-1 victory over Alaska Anchorage in the 2017-18 home opener Friday night at The Broadmoor World Arena.
Â
The Tigers (2-1-0) jumped all over UAA from the start and took a 1-0 lead just 29 seconds into the contest when
Ben Israel took a centering pass from Halloran and sent a one-timer from the slot past Olivier Mantha.
Â
After UAA's Joe Sofo took a tripping call at the 14:13 mark of the first,
Cole McCaskill put CC ahead 2-0 with a wrist shot from in between the circles at the 15:06 mark. Halloran and Bradley assisted on CC's second power-play goal of the campaign.
Â
Halloran, who had a hand in CC's first four goals, then scored on a beautiful play a little more than two minutes later for a 3-0 advantage. Bradley entered the zone along the right boards and feathered a pass towards the net that found a streaking Halloran, who deflected the pass past Mantha.
Â
CC kept up the pressure in the second period and struck again as Halloran and Bradley helped
Mason Bergh notch his first goal of the season for a 4-0 lead at the 7:20 mark.
Â
"We played with pace and moved the puck well," head coach
Mike Haviland said. "I liked the way we kept coming and coming. We moved our feet and made plays. It's the way we played in Vermont."
Â
The Seawolves (0-2-1) got on the board with 2:05 remaining in the second when Trey deGraaf beat CC goalie
Alex Leclerc, but the Tigers put the game away with goals from
Branden Makara and
Christiano Versich, his first career tally, in the third.
Â
Colorado College had 39 shots on goal compared to 26 for Alaska Anchorage. Versich and teammate
Trevor Gooch led all players with eight shots, while Halloran had five. Leclerc made 25 saves, while Mantha had 30 before giving way to Brody Claeys after Versich's goal. The Tigers were 1-for-8 on the power play and killed off all four of UAA's power-play opportunities.
Â
The Tigers scored at least six goals in a game at home since Feb. 9, 2013, a 6-5 overtime victory over Denver, and Halloran is the first Tiger with four points in a game since Hunter Fejes had two goals and two assists at North Dakota on Jan. 22, 2016.
Â
"We have to establish our home ice as a tough building to come into and we did a good job of that tonight," Haviland said.
Â
The two teams will battle again Saturday night, beginning at 7 p.m.
