Mason Bergh posted Colorado College's first hat trick since 2013 and led the Tigers to a weekend sweep of Alaska Anchorage with a 3-2 victory Saturday night at the Broadmoor World Arena.

Bergh, who had a goal and an assist Friday night in CC's 6-1 rout, scored in each period Saturday and became the first Tiger with a hat trick since Mike Boivin against Nebraska Omaha on Jan. 4, 2013. It was CC's first hat trick at home since Rylan Schwartz had three goals against Bemidji State on Oct. 15, 2011.

For the second straight Saturday, the Tigers had to rally from a 1-0 deficit as UAA's Tad Kozun opened the scoring at the 6:30 mark of the first period with a power-play goal as he banged home a shot from in front that snuck past CC goalie Alex Leclerc.

"They had us on our heels for the first eight minutes of the game," head coach Mike Haviland said. "But I really liked our pace and Mason got us going and put the team on his shoulders. He was not happy early in the game and really led by example the rest of the way."

Bergh evened the score at 12:05 of the opening frame with his second power-play goal of the weekend. Trey Bradley maneuvered the puck to the middle of the ice and found Bergh, who was perched by the right post and banged home a shot past UAA goalie Olivier Mantha.

Bergh's second goal also came on the power play, this time Westin Michaud found him on the doorstep and it was 2-1 at the 8:49 mark of the middle frame. The Tigers probably felt the margin should have been more as they outshot UAA 16-5 in the second period, but Mantha came up with 15 saves.

The hat trick was complete at the 3:44 mark of the third period. Zach Berzolla started the play in his own end and found Nick Halloran along the boards. Halloran flipped a pass to Bergh, who fired a wrist shot from the slot that easily beat Mantha.

Colorado College (3-1) kept up the pressure in the third, largely in part to a full two minutes of 5-on-3  when UAA's Mason Anderson was called for cross checking and Derek Glover for roughing 4:07 into the period. The Tigers held the puck in the UAA zone for the entire power play, but could not solve Mantha, who made six saves during the two-minute span to keep CC's advantage at two.

The Tigers held a 12-2 advantage in shots during the final 20 minutes, but the Seawolves (0-3-1) took advantage of one of them when Cameron Trott cut the lead to 3-2 with a power-play goal at the 14:00 mark. UAA also had a power-play opportunity when Halloran was called for goaltender interference with 3:34 remaining.

CC's penalty kill was outstanding and did not allow a shot during the two-minute stretch. In fact, the Tigers kept the puck in the UAA zone and Mantha was unable to leave the net for an extra attacker until there were just three seconds left in the period.

The Tigers put 41 shots on Mantha and held the Seawolves to 18, including just seven in the final two periods. Mantha finished with 38 saves, while Leclerc had 16.

"Alex really kept his focus tonight, especially when he didn't see a lot of action," Haviland said. "Just like last Saturday in Vermont, he got better as the game went along."

The Tigers head back to the East Coast next weekend for a weekend series at the University of New Hampshire, Oct. 20-21.
