Last Time Out
Colorado College gained another split on the road last weekend at 17th-ranked New Hampshire ... On Friday, Max Gildon recorded a hat trick and Danny Tirone had 45 saves to keep 17th-ranked UNH perfect on the season with a 6-3 victory. The Tigers outshot New Hampshire, 48-28, including a 33-18 advantage in the final two periods, but could not get enough of them past Tirone to keep the Wildcats from becoming the first team in the country with a 5-0 record.
Troy Conzo (Nesconset, NY) scored the first goal of his collegiate career at the 8:12 mark to cut the UNH lead to 2-1, but Gildon scored twice within a span of 1:05 later in the period to increase UNH's lead to 4-1.
Mason Bergh (Eden Prairie, MN) scored his fifth of the season with just 1:53 left in the second to make it 4-2 with a tic-tac-toe play from
Trey Bradley (Tampa, FL) and
Nick Halloran (Draper, UT), but Liam Blackburn put a halt to the Tiger momentum and made it 5-2 just 2:15 into the third period.
Andrew Farny (Steamboat Springs, CO) gave the Tigers a bit of hope with his first goal of the season, a power-play tally at the 17:01 mark of the third but Chris Miller wrapped up the scoring with an empty-net goal with 1.4 seconds left on the clock ... On Saturday,
Trevor Gooch (Mantua, NJ) scored 1:03 into overtime to give the Tigers a 2-1 victory and hand UNH its first loss of the season.
Westin Michaud (Cloquet, MN) forced Gildon into a turnover in the UNH zone and found Gooch in the slot, who fired a rocket that found the top shelf past Tirone. Gooch, who had an assist on CC's first goal for a two-point game, notched his first goal of the season and first career game-winner.
Alex Leclerc (Longueuil, Quebec) was outstanding Saturday, making a season-high 39 saves, including several during two 5-on-3 advantages in the first two periods for New Hampshire. The Tigers were down two men for 1:06 when Michaud was whistled for tripping at the 8:06 mark of the opening period. After killing off the two penalties, freshman
Jack Gates (Oceanside, CA) scored his first career goal to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead at the 12:40 mark. CC fought off its second 5-on-3 disadvantage early in the second period, but couldn't get out of the frame unscathed as Gildon scored his fourth goal of the weekend with just 29.8 seconds remaining in the period. Neither team scored in the third period, although the Tigers came close in the final minute when Versich hit the post with 30 seconds remaining as Tirone was sprawled on the ground.
Tigers Receive Votes in Both Polls for First Time in Four Years
For the first time since Oct. 21, 2013, Colorado College received votes in the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls. The Tigers received 11 votes in the USCHO poll (25th) and three votes in the USA Today poll (24th).
Three Straight One-Goal Wins on Saturday
With their 2-1 overtime victory at New Hampshire last Saturday, the Tigers are 3-0 on Saturday this season and all three were by a one-goal margin. That equals the number of one-goal victories in each of the last three years. Â
Bergh, Bradley and Halloran Continue Scoring Surge
After scoring four goals and adding an assist in the weekend sweep against Alaska Anchorage, Oct. 13-14, enough to earn him the Bauer NCHC Offensive Player of the Week award, Bergh added another goal and assist last Friday night against UNH. He is tied for the team lead with eight points (5g,3a), even with Halloran (2g,6a) and Bradley (1g,7a). Each are tied for fourth in the NCHC with eight points. Â
Up Next
The Tigers travel to Oxford, Ohio, for a weekend series against the Miami Univeristy Redhawks, Nov. 3-4.
For the Record
Colorado College is 4-2 following its series split at 17th-ranked New Hampshire. It is the program's best record after six games since a 5-1 start in 2011-12 ... North Dakota is 4-1-1 after splitting a weekend series at home against former WCHA foe Minnesota. The Gophers won, 2-1, on Friday, while UND captured a 4-1 victory on Saturday.

The Coaches
Mike Haviland (Elmira College, '90) is in his fourth season at the helm of the Tigers. He came to Colorado College after serving one year as head coach of the Hershey Bears (AHL). Haviland was an assistant coach for the Chicago Blackhawks from 2008-12, helping the team win the Stanley Cup in 2010 … Brad Berry (North Dakota, '02) is in his second season as head coach at UND. Berry was an assistant coach at the school for nine seasons before taking over the helm in May of 2015. He became the first person in the history of NCAA Division I men's hockey to lead his team to a national title in his first year as head coach.
Scouting the Opposition
Junior defenseman Christian Wolanin leads the Fighting Hawks this season with six points (3g,3a). Freshman forward Grant Mismash follows with five points (1g,4a) ... Senior goalie Cam Johnson leads the NCHC and is third in the country with a 1.16 goals-against average and has a .942 saves percentage this season. He and Leclerc are tied for the league lead woth four victories.
On the Air
All CC games in 2017-18, home and away, will be broadcast live throughout Southern Colorado on KRDO NewsRadio 105.5 and 92.5 FM, and 1240 AM, featuring Ken Landau with the play-by-play. Pre-game shows start 37 minutes before faceoff. The broadcasts also can be heard worldwide via the Internet ... Selected games will also be available on KSBV 93.7 FM in Cripple Creek, Divide, Buena Vista, Monarch and Leadville.
Another Tough Schedule
After playing the second-toughest schedule in the country last season, the Tigers are at it again this year. Five of Colorado College's 13 opponents this season played in the NCAA Division I Hockey Tournament last season and 17 of CC's 34 regular-season games are scheduled against teams that were ranked in the USCHO's Top 20 preseason poll.
No Seniors This Season
Colorado College is one of only two Division I programs in the country without a senior on the 2017-18 roster. Boston College is the other. The Tigers have 10 juniors, 10 sophomores and nine freshmen on the roster.
Bergh Posts Hat Trick vs. Alaska Anchorage
With three goals against UAA on Oct. 14, Bergh posted the program's first hat trick since Mike Boivin on Jan. 4, 2013, at Nebraska-Omaha. The last time a Tiger scored three times in one game at home was Rylan Schwartz against Bemidji State on Oct. 15, 2011.
Been a While Since Two with Three Helpers
With three assists apiece in CC's 6-1 victory over Alaksa Anchorage on Oct. 13, Halloran and Bradley became the first pair of Tigers since Nov. 6, 2010, to record at least three assists in one game. Jaden Schwartz (4a) and Stephen Schultz (3a) did the trick against Denver.
Rally, Rally
Colorado College has rallied from a 1-0 deficit twice this season, surpassing last year's total of wins after an opponent scored first. The Tigers won only once last season after the opponent scored first, the 2-1 victory at St. Cloud State in the regular-season finale.
Most Shots in Over Two Years
CC's 48 shots Friday night at New Hampshire were the most in one game since attempting the same amount against UMass on Oct. 10, 2015.
Largest Margin of Victory in Over a Year
The Tigers five-goal margin of victory on Oct. 13 against Alaska Anchorage was their largest since defeating Western Michigan, 5-0, on Feb. 28, 2015.
