Tigers Fall to Air Force

Box Score Box Score

Eric Baskin scored three goals Friday night to lead Air Force past Colorado College, 6-3, at the Cadet Ice Arena.

Tyler Ledford added a goal and four assists and Billy Christopoulos had 25 saves as the Falcons snapped CC's four-game unbeaten streak and claimed the Pikes Peak Trophy for the fifth consecutive season.

Air Force (8-8-3) jumped all over Tigers at the start. Baskin scored just 28 seconds into the contest, then Kyle Mackey and Jordan Himley each added a goal within the first five minutes for a 3-0 lead on AFA's first three shots of the contest.

"I thought we gave them goals," head coach Mike Haviland said. "Three goals on three shots and we were chasing the rest of the night."

Haviland pulled Alex Leclerc following Himley's goal, and Alec Calvaruso kept Air Force at bay the rest of the frame. Nick Halloran cut the Falcon lead to 3-1 with 5:03 left in the first after skating behind the net and firing a wrister from the slot that beat Christopoulos for his 10th goal of the season.

Each team scored twice in the second period, but the Tigers allowed a goal early in the period once again. Ledford picked up a loose puck after a Tiger turnover just inside the CC blue line and scored on the breakaway just 13 seconds into the frame to make it 4-1.

The Tigers rallied with two straight goals to cut the Falcon lead to one. Trey Bradley, who had the third three-point game of his career with a goal and two assists, scored his fourth of the season at the 7:37 mark by placing a backhander past Christopoulos after taking a pass from Mason Bergh. Bergh then scored his team-high 11th goal of the season on the power play at the 10:28 mark. Bradley returned the favor with a centering pass to the front of the net that Bergh slid under Christopoulos.

Air Force regained its two-goal lead when Baskin scored his second of the game, a power-play goal at 13:21 of the second, then he scored the only goal of the third period for the hat trick with 6:07 left in the game.

Halloran and Bergh each had a goal and an assist, and along with Bradley, accounted for seven of CC's nine points in the game.

Colorado College (8-8-3) outshot the Falcons, 28-25, and Calvaruso finished with 19 saves in his second career appearance. The Tigers scored on just one of its seven power-play opportunities, while Air Force was 2-for-5.

The Tigers wrap up the non-conference portion of the 2017-18 slate Saturday night against Merrimack at The Broadmoor World Arena, beginning at 6 p.m.
